Harry Kane injury scare with England captain scheduled for ankle scan

Harry Kane will have his ankle scanned ahead of England’s upcoming World Cup match against the USA.

The 29-year-old England captain appeared to be in pain after Morteza Pouraliganji tackled him three minutes into the second half on Monday.

Kane managed to stay on the field until the 75th minute when he was replaced by fellow striker Callum Wilson.

After the game, Kane was walking around with his right ankle slightly tied and with a slight limp.

Gareth Southgate played down fears that Kane could spend time on the sidelines, but the FA is assessing his injury ahead of England’s second group game on Friday.

Southgate said after England’s 6-2 win over Iran: “I think Harry is fine. It seemed like a bad tackle, but he continued in the game. We removed it because we felt there was a moment in the game where we could do that.”

Kane claimed two assists during England’s emphatic win with the Tottenham striker assisting Raheem Sterling in the first half and Marcus Rashford during the latter stages of the second.

The current England number 9 needs three more goals to become England’s all-time top scorer.

He currently has 51 goals in 76 appearances for his country.
